Tai Chi with Roger Peters

Yang Style Tai Chi
Monday, 6 to 6:50PM   Begins May 2
Yang Style is probably the most popular and widely practiced Tai Chi style and is considered the "official" Tai Chi of China. The 24-posture form we practice in this class is a slow, gentle, graceful set of simplified Tai Chi movements. This version is easy to learn in a short time, satisfying to practice and deeply relaxing. This class is a great introduction to the ancient art of Tai Chi and a wonderful way to improve coordination and balance; gain strength and flexibility, and reduce stress.

Tai Chi Staff
Monday, 7 to 7:50PM   Begins May 2
The staff, perhaps the simplest and most practical Tai Chi weapon, is excellent for overall conditioning, improving joint health, enhancing flexibility and strengthening connective tissue. Tai Chi staff forms may be performed vigorously for an aerobic effect or more gently for relaxation and the simple art and joy of movement. The staff used in this class is a 1" diameter Chinese waxwood that measures from the floor to the eyebrow level. The staff form practiced in this class includes 65 postures.

Chen Style Tai Chi
Monday, 8 to 8:50PM   Begins May 2
Chen Style is an intricate and complex form - the traditional form - of Tai Chi, from which other styles such as Yang Style are derived. In Chen Style, circling and spiraling action guides all movements. There are changes in speed, tempo and power, making it a more explosive and dynamic form that incorporates 75 postures. This class is a great opportunity for people who are already familiar with Tai Chi and would like to expand their practice and for beginners who are looking for a challenge.
